The Orange Cluster consists of three primary schools (links go to school sites):

  • Orange Public - enrolment of just over 620 with about 60 Aboriginal students
  • Orange East Public - enrolment of just over 620 with about 60 Aboriginal students
  • Calare Public - 640 enrolments with about 60 of these Aboriginal.

Orange Public School is the Key School for the Cluster. All schools are situated in the city of Orange which is in rural NSW and located in the Central Tablelands 260 km west of Sydney. Orange is known as colour city with four distinct seasons. Its population is about 39,400. It features many historic buildings and key industries include agriculture, mining, health and education.

The original inhabitants of the Orange area are the Wiradjuri people. Orange was the destination for many Aboriginal families from around 43 north west NSW towns who were resettled as part of a federal government program in the 1970s. As a result, Orange has a very diverse Aboriginal population.

Cluster focus

Our focus: Development of explicit pedagogy through professional learning in deep mathematical knowledge and embedding 8ways of Aboriginal learning.

Cluster findings

These Make it Count Cluster Findings have been aligned with the Australian Professional Standards for Teaching. Many of the findings derive from Significant Episodes for educators. Find out about the cluster's intentions and the important stories its educators - their Signficant Episodes - that impacted their teaching.

Units of learning

These units of learning have been designed by teachers. They give insights into creative and innovative ways of teaching mathematics that engages Indigenous (and non-Indigenous) learners.

Inspiring stories

These stories – from the clusters, from educators, Aboriginal students, leaders and parents – tell their journeys, challenges, successes and will inspire educators. They will help you think about your own experiences in the classroom, school and community and inform your teaching.
